Alaskan Driftwood Hearth Broom

$90.00

This hearth broom features a truly one-of-a-kind handle made from Alaskan driftwood, with several knots left intact to show where branches once grew along the limb. Weathered by the sea and shaped by time, the wood carries visible character that cannot be replicated.

The handle was gathered by my mother during beach combing near her dry cabin in Homer, Alaska, and carried back to Southwest Virginia, bridging two very different landscapes through one working tool. While the handle tells a coastal story, every other part of this broom is made using traditional Appalachian broom-making techniques, bound by hand and built for daily use at the hearth.

A functional tool with a layered history, this broom honors place, movement, and the quiet work of keeping home.

Care & Use

Use to sweep hearths, stove fronts, and other hard surfaces. Shake out ash and debris after use. Always hang by the leather hanging loop when not in use. Never store bristle-side down, as this can bend and weaken the broomcorn over time. Keep dry between uses. With regular work, the broomcorn will soften and wear naturally, becoming more responsive and well-suited to your hand.

Materials: Alaskan driftwood, natural broomcorn, charcoal gray nylon twine, and leather hanging loop.

Dimensions: (By Hanging Loop) approx. 35”x8.5”x3”

Products ship on Mondays and Fridays each week.

No returns or exchanges accepted.
